Abstract
Abstract—Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) is a promising key technology for sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks, which can support both environmental sensing and wireless communication at the same time in the same infrastructure. With the introduction of 6G for autonomous vehicles, smart cities, healthcare, and industrial automation, the need for trustworthy sensing and communication is not only crucial for network performance but also for delivering next-generation benefits. This paper reviews the evolution of trust-centric ISAC and proposes a layered architecture where a trust evaluation engine based on an AI system is used to evaluate the trustworthiness of sensing, communication and security prior to information being used in applications. It covers enabling technologies like edge intelligence, explainable AI, privacy-preserving learning, and collaborative sensing while emphasizing their importance in the development of reliable and secure 6G networks. Supportive original architecture diagrams, performance graphs, and reliability, latency, trust, accuracy and attack detection comparison tables. Finally, the paper presents a list of open research issues and potential future developments of trustworthy, scalable and intelligent ISAC systems for next-generation wireless applications.
